national parks - page in progress

text review by Cecília Ferraz, Director of Ecosystems at IBAMA

In 2000, photographer Luciana Napchan and environmentalist Walter Behr decided to document national parks in Latin America. The initial challenge was to choose eight national parks, from among the hundreds of protected areas in Latin America, that would represent different ecosystems and that would demonstrate in their surrounding areas, examples of successful environmental conservation programs - programs that could be replicated in other regions of Latin America. The work has fulfilled its mission by documenting eight remarkable examples of environmental management. But it also goes beyond. A selection of beautiful images of the parks transforms this project into an unforgettable journey around the diversity of life on the Latin American Continent.
